“What Value for Money”

Bizzel South Africa Oct 22, 2008

We returned from a fantastic holiday in Italy and one of our stops was in Positano. We battled to find accommos within our budget (which was EUR 80 per day for 2) in this area as it is generally more expensive than the rest of the Amalfi Coast. Fortunately my husband found "Venus Inn" which is a B & B listed on Trip Advisor, and I was a little hesitant to stay at first as I had not found a lot of reviews and couldn't see the grading.
I can tell you that it made our Positano leg one of the best in the journey. The rooms are spacious, with high ceilings. The doors of your room open onto the patio which was lovely. You mostly view the opposite side of the cliff from the bedroom, but sitting in another section of the patio, you get really great views of the ocean.
What really also made our stay special was the host, Giuseppe. He was a lovely guy and very easy going as well as being very accommodating. We had a car which we parked about 70m away as you cannot drive to the door without going all the way down the hill as it is a one way. Parking was about EUR16 per day.
You can get breakfast (no eggs and bacon, but toast, coffee and Giuseppe's lovely fresh garden grown figs) for EUR 3pp.
I would highly recommend the place as it is really really good value for money.
If I went back I would definitely stay there again.

"Amazing and Exceptional Stay at the Venus Inn”

Tobster2 Montreal, Canada Oct 19, 2008

Positano is a wonderful place to visit, but is is quite pricey. If you are looking for a very affordable and special place to stay in Positano, Venus Inn is the place.
My girlfriend and I spent 5 wonderful days at the Venus Inn in June 2008. This is a B & B that is located about a 20 minute walk away from central Positano and is about half way up the mountain. At a cost of under 100 Euros per night, it is an exceptional place to stay.
The 5 room B & B has been recently renovated and contains all the basic amenities one would expect. The whole property is extremely clean and comfortable. We stayed in the Smeraldo room. This was a large corner room with a small balcony and large windows on one side and a very large common terrace (with a private seating area) and large windows on another side. The views from our room and the terrace ... truly breathtaking!!! We could see most of Positano on a cliff as well as a partial clear view of the sea from our room, balcony and terrace. This was exactly what we were looking for. We could not get enough of the magical views from our terrace. Imagine waking up to this beautiful view and spending a couple of hours at night sipping some Italian wine or local Limoncello gazing at the stars. We also had the use of a common fridge which served very useful for keeping our drinks cold. Our bathroom was equally comfortable and clean. The only improvement we could suggest was to increase the water pressure in the shower.
Giuseppe, the owner, was extremely hospitable, friendly and professional. He is very knowledgeable in local sites and restaurants and takes great pride and pleasure in sharing recommendations with the guests.
Breakfast is served by Giuseppe at the time you desire directly at your table on the private section of the common terrace. Imagine eating breakfast on the terrace with the wonderful views. The breaskfasts were good and plentiful. My only recommendation would be to serve fresh bread or croissants instead of the pre-packaged croissants that was served ... it would have made a big difference.
The Venus Inn is well situated, within walking distance to many shops and restaurants, the main part of Positano, the beach, and the main street at the top of the cliff ... that is if you have no problems walking, especially uphill. Although we enjoy walking, the uphill walks were at times quite tiring. There are, however, shops and restaurants, within a five minute easy walk from the hotel and there is an efficient local bus service throughout Positano.
While Giuseppe gave wonderful recommendations for various dining options, he also encouraged us to bring take out pizza or pasta from any nearby restaurant, along with our favourite wine, and have supper on our terrace with the exceptional views.
One of Giuseppe's restaurant suggestions, La Tagliata, is a must. This is an exceptional restaurant almost at the top of the mountain, about a 15 minute drive from the Venus Inn. The restaurant provides free return transportation from the hotel and serves a delicious fixed sampler menu with wine, on an outodoor terrace with a great view at a very affordable price, especially by Positano standards. We had over 30 different and delicious appetizers, home made pastas, grilles meats, vegetables and desserts that kept on coming to our table for only 35 Euros per person, including wine, tax and service. It was one of the best meals I have ever had.
Positano is also a great base from which you can visit the rest of the Amalfi coast and the beautiful island of Capri. You can even take a day trip to Pompeii (which was unfortunately closed during our stay due to a strike) and Naples.
I would classify this quaint and wonderful B & B a 4 star establishment and give it 5 stars as an overall experience. I cannot see any reason to stay in another hotel in Positano at a cost that is twice or three times that charged by the Venus Inn, unless of course you are looking for luxury.
Given its location, clean, large and modern accomodations, hospitable service, and breathtaking views from the room, the balcony and the large terrace, as well as the very affordable cost, the Venus Inn is a hidden gem of exceptional value and we would definitely recommend it. Thank you Giuseppe for an amazing stay.

“Simply fantastic...”

I have to say there is nothing like staying at a newly renovated B&B!!! The rooms are large and open on to a nice balcony. The bathrooms have also been renovated and the rooms are also complete with fridge and cooktop.
Not to mention the service provided by Gippy (the owner) adds that extra bit to make anyones stay at the Venus a fantastic experience!!

“Vénus - sur une autre planète !”

Leighdigger Surrey 3 juin 2008

A bientôt.

Ciao.
